Maximising Your Earning Potential (part 1)

Consistency in terms of job offers and earning an acceptable income with gradual promotional opportunities is good. But achieving your maximum earning potential is great! This is the difference between having a job and having a career. To make sure you don’t find yourself in this unfavourable position, it is up to you to take full control of your own career and do everything in your power to achieve a salary or rate that is reflective of your capabilities. For many occupations, following a cycle of lifelong learning can help to increase earning potential. Continuing Professional Development is promoted by many different industry institutions and can help you to establish what you hope to achieve and when you expect to achieve it, keeping a continued focus on your earning potential. Being able to use basic software packages such as Microsoft Office applications as well as having a good understanding of any software more specific to your industry can be highly advantageous when you’re seeking to maximise your earning potential. If you can identify software packages that you should be more familiar with, do what is necessary in order to change this.The acquisition of (and ability to utilise) transferable skills that can be applied to a range of positions is an additional way of increasing your earning potential. It is important to think about soft skills such as communication, leadership and team-working skills as well as technical competencies. Ensuring you emphasise the possession of such skills will work to your advantage when seeking promotional opportunities.
