How to Set and Achieve Goals

Life is a journey. Not just any journey, but the most fantastic journey in the universe.Life is a journey from where you are to where you want to be.You can choose your own destination. Not only that, you can choose how you are going to get there.Goal setting will help you end up where you want to be.1.   When it comes to setting goals, start off with what's important to you in life. Take out a sheet of paper. Sit quietly, and on that sheet of paper, brainstorm what you want to accomplish between now and the end of your life.2.   Second step-use another sheet of paper, and this time consider yourself and your personal goals for the next 12 month period. Some key areas in which you might set personal goals include: family, personal growth, financial, health, social, career, hobbies, spiritual, and recreation. Write down the things that you plan to accomplish or achieve or attain during this one-year period?3.   Now, as a third step, go back and compare the two goal lists you have made. Make sure that the items on your short-term list will, as you attain them, be helping you attain your long-term or lifetime goals. It is important that what you are doing short term is taking you in the right direction toward your lifetime goals. Please rewrite your short term goals now if you need to.4.   Now, as a third step, go back and compare the two goal lists you have made. Make sure that the items on your short-term list will, as you attain them, be helping you attain your long-term or lifetime goals. It is important that what you are doing short term is taking you in the right direction toward your lifetime goals. Please rewrite your short term goals now if you need to.5.   As a next step, looking at the goals that are on your list at this time, if there are any that you are not willing to pay the price for, go ahead and cross them out, leaving only those items you are willing to cause to happen in your life. This does not necessarily mean you have the money or the other resources for attaining the goal right now. However, when you do have it, would you spend it on or trade it for the goals you have on your list?6.   Now, on still another sheet of paper, create the job goals that are important to you during this upcoming 12-month period. Identify what outcomes you wish to attain or achieve during this one-year period in your specific area of responsibility and authority.7.   Some key areas in which you might consider writing job goals, if you did not already, include: quality, quantity, cost control, cost improvement, equipment, procedures, training, sales, financial, and personnel.8.   As a next step, look for the blending between your job or work goals and your personal goals. Anywhere you notice that you are attaining a goal on the job while at the same time you are attaining a personal goal, note this relationship: it is in these areas you will be most highly motivated.9.   For each of the three lists that you have just created, take an additional sheet of paper and list the activities that you must do to attain the most important goal that you have on each of your lists.

Bodyguard Training and First Aid

First Aid skills are important in any walk of life, but being skilled in First Aid is absolutely fundamental to being a Close protection professional. Some schoolchildren are now taught very basic First Aid. This is a good thing. First Aid should be on everybody's curriculum. Over the years, I have seen and been amazed at the number of bodyguards' CV/resumes that make no mention of First Aid. When questioned in interview, these candidates mention that yes, they have done First Aid in the Army: 'about ten years ago' or 'I did a lifesaving course, "a while ago"'.This is simply not good enough. I can guarantee with some certainty that First Aid skills will be needed in a career of close protection. You may never need that bootleg turn that you practise over and over in the car or the quick draw and chair roll that you have perfected for hotel corridors; but you will need your knowledge of First Aid.Professional Bodyguards Must Train in First AidFirst Aid is a skill like any other; it needs constant practice to remain effective. Techniques and ideas change so it is imperative that you carry out continual training and remain up to date. Most books on 'close protection' include a chapter on First Aid but this is a token gesture and often used only to pad out the book. Authors tend to stick to sexy First Aid like suckling chest wounds, tracheotomies and gunshot wounds. They ignore the simple facts, such as your principal is hundreds of times more likely to die choking on a pretzel than be shot in the chest. First Aid needs its own book, and cannot be covered in a single chapter. You will need to undertake a course in First Aid.In the UK when the Security Industry Authority (SIA) commissioned the key skills or core competencies, the draft documents included just sexy First Aid. Some sensible folk lobbied to get this taken out and be replaced by a formal qualification in First Aid. Eventually, the SIA chose the Health and Safety Executive's 'First Aid at Work' course, which is run over four days and which is accompanied by written and practical exams. In the UK, therefore, you will need this First Aid qualification to get a licence to operate as a Close Protection Officer. The course covers much more than tracheotomies and for those that really want to know, yes, they do teach you about suckling chest wounds. The course will cover the following: * Introduction to first aid * Personal hygiene * Circulation * Resuscitation * Dressings and bandages * Wounds and bleeding * Circulatory disorders * Duties of a First Aider * The skeleton * Fractures * Unconsciousness * Burns and scalding * Handling and transportThis course certificate is valid for three years; thereafter, before your certificate runs out, you must undertake a two day refresher course. Go over three years and you will have to do the whole course again to get re-certificated.Other Essential First Aid CoursesWhile the basic First Aid course above is enough to get you a licence to operate in the UK you should consider at least two other First Aid qualifications, which are essential if you are to become a protection professional.Automated External Defibrillator CourseThis short course teaches you how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This device can be used to administer measured electric shocks to people in the throes of cardiac arrest and is the best way of increasing their chance of survival. Many close protection teams routinely carry AEDs and you must be trained in their use. Most 'de-fib' courses last around one day and the course certificate must be renewed every six months.First Aid for childrenVery often the addition of a first aid certificate applicable to children will make a close protection officer more employable in a family environment. Most courses available are aimed at giving first aid to adults so you will have to look hard to find one especially for children. First aid techniques for children differ in some crucial areas. Participants learn about techniques for resuscitating children and infants, conducting risk assessments and how to deal with choking, burns, scalds and seizures. In a career in close protection, you will find that you work for principals that have families that include young children. You will often be charged with their care. You need to know what to do in the event of an accident or illness. If you are working in an environment that includes children, you cannot be a bodyguard without these skills.James Brown BEM is the author of the Bodyguards Bible - The Definitive Guide to Close protection. How to Find Jobs Online

Internet has become a great resource for job seekers to find a job. Finding a job online can either be a devastating task or it can be an exceptionally easy one. The level of difficulty of online job search depends upon the internet resource and the way it is being utilized. The online world is as complex as the actual world is. The availability of fraudulent activities and scams online has made it difficult to choose the resource that is worth your time. However by learning the right techniques you can get the best job and that too with the least effort. Here are some useful ways that can help you to find a job online:Recruitment Agencies: These are the agencies that match employers with the job applicants who fit their criteria. You are just required to register with these job agencies and leave your succinct profile and contact details. Employers subscribe to these sites to find appropriate candidates to fill their vacancies. And if you are appropriate for a particular vacancy then you will be contacted by the job agency. But before registering with any of the job agency check the security of the site and confirm that their primary client is the employer, not you.Online Forums: Participate in online forums where the topic is all about job hunt. There are online forums available for every plausible profession. What you need to do is to become a member of the different online forums and take part enthusiastically in the activities. In order to generate a plenty of references to job openings it is essential to mention and describe your skills, knowledge, achievements, experience and expertise in the forums.Corporate Websites: Corporate websites appear like a good place to find a job. Search the websites of the companies that you would like to work for. Locate the "careers" page of the website and see if there is any opening that matches your skills and expertise. In case if you don't find any opening matching your profile then send an email to the HR and make a case for why they should employ you or even think about you.Check Job Sites: By searching job sites you can also find a job with no experience. Browse the jobs that are listed and apply according to your profession and desire. But before applying it is essential to know the site and the team behind it. Confirm that the information provided on the "about us" or "contact us" pages of the website is real. It is advisable to check the authenticity of job sites which only have fill-in-the-blank forms on their pages or which are introduced through e-mail

Medical Billing and Medical Coding Professionals are in Great Demand

The healthcare field is considered to be 'recession-proof' meaning that regardless of how poor the economy is, there will always be jobs available. While millions of people are facing layoffs and unemployment due to our faltering economy, the heathcare field is still in great need of qualified personnel. One of the most promising careers within the healthcare field is medical billing. A medical biller is a person who is responsible for submitting and following up on claims to insurance companies in order to receive payment for services rendered.   People who graduate with medical billing careers work with software that simplifies and standardizes the reports that are generated. If you are interested in becoming a medical billing professional, you can enroll in one of the many medical billing schools that will train you to become certified in the field. Medical billing careers offer competitive salaries based on experience. Those who are new to the field can expect to earn a little over $30,000 annually while billing experts with over twenty years of experience can earn $40,000 per year. You can expect to spend an average of one year in a medical billing school and you can either attend classes in a 'brick and mortar' traditional school setting or you may study online.    Medical coders work alongside medical billers in health departments and hospitals to coordinate the providers health insurance billing needs. A medical coder uses a set of codes for reporting services provided by a health care provider to the insurance company. The codes used are nationally recognized and allow insurance companies to chart the services of the healthcare provider. In most cases, if a service provider does not code their claims then they will not be paid for their services by the insurance companies. In order to obtain medical coding certification, you will have to spend up to a year studying a program that is endorsed by the Academy of Professional Coders or the American Health Information Management Association-depending on whether you wish to be a professional coder or a coding specialist. Certified medical coders can work in a great many environments such as medical offices, hospitals and insurance companies.   Both medical billing and medical coding provides job stability and the opportunity for advancement. Anyone interested in either field should research schools available in their area that offers the education and certification required to enter these fields.

Resume Fraud: Top 10 tips to spot that fraudulent resume

They say that lying comes naturally to humans; so it's of no surprise that resumes will lie as well! It has almost become an epidemic of sorts. One never knows where it may originate from; and there seems no ways of finding a vaccine and curing it forever. As an individual looking to get hired, you can differentiate yourself by making it clear that your resume has integrity, such as by getting a Crederity seal. As a hiring HR professional or recruiter, it is very important to make sure to background check and verify the resumes of the individuals you express interest in, lest it be based on false information.A few examples and numbers of resume fraud… In February 2006, David Edmondson (President and CEO) of RadioShack Corp.—a leading electronics retailer of US—was forced to resign for putting up false credentials in his resume. VERITAS, the international software giant, sacked its former CFO for having falsely claimed a Stanford MBA in his resume. In the UK, 39% of organizations admit to have gone through situations, ending up hiring people who has supposedly lied in their job application. According to BBC Risk Advisory Group 2004 study: two-thirds of the resumes they received had discrepancies! Of the various statistics: Women in their 30s were the worst offenders55% of CVs had employment discrepancies36% changed academic details…and a very interesting caught-in-the-act instance! The Port Authority of New York, in the late 90s, published an ‘electricians with experience in using Sontag conductors required' advertisement. Almost one-third of the applicants claimed they had experience in using a Sontag conductor. The catch? A 'Sontag conductor' didn't exist! The 10-point formula to catch that dishonest resume Check for inconsistencies — slip-ups in dates, contradictions between job titles and duties, etc. Make interviewees fill out applications—and compare this with the resume! Thanks to various "professional resume writers", most applicants do not even realize what is on their resume. Some recruitment agencies juggle information between various resumes, creating fraud (with the approval of candidates). Test the applicant's skills—through on-site, hands-on tests; check if claims of proficiency in a program or skill are true.Check references, then ask for more—do not be satisfied with the references in the resume. They're obviously ‘good' sources. Ask for details of a colleague/supervisor/ex-employee and follow up on them.Make sure institutions exist—call the college admissions office, verify degrees and other claims.Investigate deep into "self-owned business" claims—names and numbers of past clients. Try to get their details / samples of the work done for them.Don't confuse referrals with references—thoroughly check candidates referred by co-workers or friends.Don't blindly trust your hiring consultants—one never knows if they have passed on a well-screened resume. Do your own verification checks.Analyse why the applicant left his previous company—the situations; and if the firm had been liquidated firms, try and understand what role the applicant played towards the company's fate.Do not be biased against a set/group of people—come out of the stereotyped thought that only youngsters stoop to such frauds; reports show that 49% of the perpetrators were above 40.And finally – verify the potential employee's background using the world-wide-web. Probe deep into any mismatch with the details given in the resume. At Crederity, we're trying to make it easier to accomplish some of the steps above and others to assess the authenticity and credibility of credentials and identity, to benefit both job seekers and employers, as well as people from all walks of life outside of the employment context. What happens during a bad hire?It is estimated that in the US, a single bad hire can bring losses of $25,000, in the case of a entry-to-mid-level position, and close to $1 million or more for an executive position. A bad hire can also mean an estimated loss to companies of approximately $40,000 in severance pay, training, wasted human resources time, possible search firm fees, loss of productivity, and impact on employee morale. In today's rat-race job market, many people are ready to go to any means to make the recruiter believe that they are the ones the company needs. And if you thought it happens only in small-scale institutions, where the chances of a background check may be perceived to be less likely, well you've already read what happens in big, multinational companies!Pre-employment screening, though an added step, is a smart idea; you only stand to benefit! Accept it: the expense of a bad hire far outweighs the cost of a background check.

Employee Engagement through Continuous Feedback Gathering

Employees tend to work best in companies where they feel their opinions are being valued, where their voices are heard. A company with a staff suggestion box is a good example of this. But some still doubt the anonymity of these physical staff suggestion boxes. Some employees fear the possibility of retaliation especially if all they can say are negative comments and feedback. Suggestion Guru offers a solution to this concern – the virtual suggestion box. This suggestion box comes in different implementations depending on the needs of the company. Check with us to see which one fits your business best. Each day you communicate with multiple people in various ways. You chat with coworkers, email clients, meet with your boss, etc. As specialists in employee surveys, what we hear from clients — and what we see in reports — is shortcomings in communication. Sometimes the problem is the method of communication, sometimes it’s the timing… and sometimes it’s the perception that offering honest feedback is not worth the bother or the risk. Because communication touches on all parts of one’s professional (and personal) life, continual improvement in this area is vital. Gathering honest feedback should never be relegated to annual employee surveys or performance reviews. We designed Virtual Suggestion Boxes to show you how ongoing feedback tools can be adapted to any organization’s, manager’s or individual’s needs. Which Virtual Suggestion Box product is best for you? See our product descriptions to determine which of our solutions fits best with your goals and environment. With that in mind, I created a range of solutions that can be: Sent as a survey, posted on a Web site, emailed as a link or incorporated into an email signature Email signature usage shows people you are committed to ongoing feedback and creates a "halo" effect for you, elevating your image to clients, coworkers, supervisors and others with whom you interact regularly Anonymous, optionally anonymous or with identities fully disclosed Styled like a forum, blog, survey or combination Used for mass communication or one-on-one  feedback Accessible to the public or restricted in access Focused on a specific target group (i.e., employees, customers, members...or a combination) Affordable and cost-effective for any size organization, department or person

How To Succeed In Office Politics

During the past decade, I've talked to scores of executives and managers about their careers. A recurring theme for both high-performing and high-potential professionals has been how to find the keys to a successful career amid the pitfalls and promises corporate politics provide. Here are some insights to help shape, advance and revitalize the careers of executives and managers. Take responsibility for managing your career. Don't wait until you're fired, laid off, burned out or fed up to revitalize your career. Reinvent your career on an ongoing basis; Treat every encounter and conversation with people as an interview. Everyone you talk to judges or evaluates your worth. Make that conversation worth something by focusing on the other person and not yourself. And you never know where the next great opportunity can come from. Focus on your strengths. Do what you are best at and what you have a passion for. Don't focus on your weaknesses, you'll just make them mediocre.  Extreme workaholics overproduce and overachieve at a cost.  Typically, they burn out and never regain their previous success levels, and often pay a personal price for their behavior. Balance your focus on business results with a focus on people. Of course the bottom line is important, but not at the expense of people. Spend at least half your time cultivating relationships outside of work. Stop being in love with the sound of your own voice.  Develop the discipline to listen 80% of the time and talk 20%. Never be unemployed, not even for a day. If you get fired, or laid off, volunteer immediately somewhere for something that puts your skills, knowledge and abilities to work. The longer you are not meaningfully engaged, whether you are compensated or not, the more this will drain your energy and confidence. Don't suffer an abusive boss. If you can't get the respect you deserve, leave faster than a speeding bullet. Underpromise and overdeliver. The celebrity-professional athlete hype and heroic CEO promises of overachievement have captured the public's fancy, but artificially so, when the performers can't deliver. Find mentors. Hire a coach, seek out a trusted advisor, preferably outside your family and work. While there are no magic formulas to guarantee your career success, it requires sustained effort, street smarts and insightful strategies.

How To Attract Your Dream Job

You've probably seen the Secret movie by now or at the very least you have heard about it. In short, the Secret movie is about the Law of Attraction and you can use this law to draw your perfect job into your life.To get started, make a list on paper of all the things you don't want in a job or don't like in your current job. Then, take each one of those items on your list and ask yourself what you would like instead. So, one of your list items might be that you don't want to work with a bunch of negative, backstabbing co-workers. Write that you want to work with a team of positive upbeat people that are supportive of each other and fun to be around. Do this for each of your "don't want" statements and pretty soon, you will notice your energy level increasing and your mood shifting to one that is much more positive and joyful. Spend as much time as you can on this step and get as detailed as possible. Include all of the qualities that you want from how close you would like your job to be from your home to the type of work you want to be doing to the sort of boss you want to work for and how much money you want to make.Next, try and get a picture of your dream job in your mind and imagine all the good feelings surrounding the scene. Repeat this visualization as often as possible and try and engage all of your senses. The more of your senses that you use in your visualization along with positive feelings, the more likely your visualization will manifest. It is also recommended that you put yourself in the scene of your visualization rather that looking at the scene as though it is on a movie screen. You need to be an active participant in your visualization. If any doubts or negative feelings arise, just change your focus again by asking, "so what do I want?" and go back to your written list of "wants" if you need to. The more time you spend focusing on what you want and visualizing it with feeling, the faster it will come to you. You may even find that things start to change at your current place of work. This doesn't necessarily mean that you should abandon your job search but you may want re-evaluate your current job situation again to see if perhaps your dream job is right under your nose.Your next step is to take inspired action. So, if you get a feeling that you should connect with an old friend that you haven't spoken to in a while - follow that instinct. You never know where a phone call might lead. You might decide one day to take a different route to work and pass a company that you weren't aware of and find out that they have an opening there. The point is to be open to the possibilities of where this dream job might come from while still keeping up with your traditional job search methods.Relax about the process and trust that everything will work out in due time. Your manifestation will be delayed if you keep wondering where it is so trust that it is on its way and enjoy your visualizations in the meantime. Many people have successfully used the law of attraction for finding their ideal career and you can too.

Principles of therapeutic communication every nurse should master

If you ever visit to a hospital in connection with some health related problems, the first person you meet there and probably the last person you will meet while returning from the hospital would be none other than the nurse.  Thus, it becomes imperative for the nurse to communicate with the person or prospective patient, extend care and assistance during his or her stay in the hospital environment and help that patient leave the hospital back as a person. The interaction between the nurse and the patient, which results in a beneficial outcome for the patient, is what, in nursing parlance, is referred to as Therapeutic Communication. The primary goal of therapeutic communication is to make the patient feel and realize that he or she is being taken care of and the pain, agony or feelings of the patient are well understood and adequately addressed through treatment, care and assistance. Therapeutic communication is not the same as social interaction or other forms of verbal communication exchanged between any two or more persons.  The communication between the nurse and the patient has the purpose and vision – care and assistance for the patient – and hence it is essential that the principles of therapeutic communication be mastered by the nurses.  Another notable aspect of therapeutic communication is that it is non-judgmental. Care and assistance to the patient is the primary goal of therapeutic communication and gaining skill and expertise over this important aspect requires a nurse to follow some basic principles of therapeutic communication.
The nurse should ensure that he or she interacts with the patient at a suitable time where the patient is comfortable discussing with the nurse. If the patient had just undergone some treatment and feeling a bit tired, probably due to the impact of medication, then the nurse should not disturb the patient with discussion related to his or her health. The nurse should also bear in mind the physical environment in which the patient is placed and ensure that there is adequate privacy around so that the communication can be effective between the patient and the nurse.  If there were visitors to the patient around the bedside, then he or she might show some uneasiness discussing with the nurse.  The atmosphere or environment should be better so that it encourages the patient to speak with openness with the nurse. Before beginning the conversation, the nurse should make it clear to the patient the purpose of the interaction.  This will make it clear for the patient and, having realized that it is related to his or her health care and assistance, he or she will more likely cooperate and provide the required information. One of the most important aspects of therapeutic communication on behalf of the nurse is to be non-judgmental.  In other words, the nurse should accept what the patient says, "As it is" without passing on any personal judgments.  The nurse should be aware of his or her own biases and should not allow his or her biased vision to intervene with what the patient has to say.   The nurse can extend best possible care and assistance only and only when he or she accepts the patient's remarks and understands what the patient says, keeping his or her judgment or bias under control. The nurse should be an active listener in therapeutic communication.  In other words, he or she should correctly interpret and understand what the patient conveys during the conversation.  The nurse should ensure this by repeating what the patient has said and providing an opportunity to the patient to confirm what he or she had said about the problems.  This is a hallmark of active listening and every nurse should be active listeners.
These are some of the basic principles of therapeutic communication every nurse should master and gain expertise.

How You Can Perform at Your Best and Stay Employed

Unemployment is growing at this time; however, there are many actions you can take to help you stay employed, enjoy your work and become a more valuable asset to your organization. You can accomplish this by learning to play off the best attributes you bring, or could learn to bring, to the job. It's often difficult to recover from a career worst; but, it can be very energizing and a tremendous boost to your career, to play off the strength and self-assurance of your career best. You can increase the frequency of your career bests by understanding the factors and feelings you need to experience so you can continue to grow and perform at your best. Consider the where you are and how you can enhance your career by focusing on the following points. To experience the best of your career life means “seizing opportunities” that best fit your strengths and talents as they arise. Look for opportunities to volunteer where you can perform at your best and pick your projects wisely. Be aware that job security is dead, that jobs are volatile and updating your skills and gaining new experience is what will keep you both energized and marketable. Cultivate and maintain a winning attitude. Winners maintain an optimistic and realistic outlook as they move toward their career goals. The key to understanding personal career motivation is in knowing what energizes you… what kinds of activities, people, and situations are personally stimulating and fulfilling to you on the job? Live by positive values. To succeed over the long term, you must know what’s right and wrong, and you must use these standards of behavior every day to keep your career on track. No pain, no gain. Winners face career obstacles directly and turn the pain of “hard and smart” work into the gain realized in a successful career. Don’t forget the networking. Networking inside your organization can go a long way toward keeping you informed. Information will form your career. Are you aware that only a small percentage of the available jobs are actually advertised? It is critical to maintain your own network, so that you can hear about these unadvertised opportunities. Take stock of your strengths and the types of tasks you like to do and can do well. Look for important, visible ways to use and build on your strengths within the organization and that will get you recognized for a job well done. Know what profits and the benefits your roles generate for your organization and make sure the organization knows the value of your contributions. People who get ahead in their careers don't sit back waiting for the boss to think of ideas. You've got to take a risk and initiate new and innovative ideas. Not taking a risk to be innovative is also a risk. To stay employed, take smart risks and create value. Look for opportunities where you can leverage what you do well. It's a great way to increase your job knowledge, satisfaction and responsibility, and your job security can actually increase when you embrace change as it occurs. Organizations are always looking for people to step up to the challenge and take on new things. Look at your performance through your supervisor's eyes. If I were my boss, ask yourself, would I keep me? Your boss most likely wants self-reliant individuals who take charge of their careers and are continually updating their skills and experiences, are, engaged, resilient, future-focused, self-aware, driven by values, flexible and dedicated to lifelong learning. Are you that person? Bottom line… if you want to stay employed and be at your career best, you must learn from mistakes, overcome challenges, mitigate your weaknesses, and play off your innate strengths, talents and skills. You must stay closely in tune to your career performance and objectives… know what’s going on in your organization and have a job you feel is worthwhile doing. You must stay informed, engaged, open to change, and determined to make a positive impact on those around you. A very important point: You must work every day to earn the right to keep your job… Never take your job or career for granted!

Nursing Career Specialty - A Look Into Home Health Nursing

Home health nursing can be a rewarding option for nurses who want to specialize; although it is not for everyone. As the name implies, home health nursing involves making several visits to various homebound patients every work day in your discount landau scrubs. Patients cared for are typically only temporarily homebound and require some form of therapy to recover. Home health nursing is thus not to be confused with private duty assignments, wherein a nurse usually takes care of only one patient at a time. Primary tasksHome health nurses typically make complete assessments, from head to toe. Depending on the patient's condition, the physician's orders, and the findings, the nurse's assessment can be simple and quick or complex and take a long time. Depending on the circumstances and the condition, the patient and the caregiver is usually given instruction on performing simple medical tasks such as wound care, IV administration, incision care, G-tube change, Foley catheter change, and so on. Every visit builds on the previous visit and the home health nurse will ask for a demonstration from the caregiver or patient to see if they have learned the instruction well. At other times, the caregiver or patient may also need a comprehensive instruction for a diagnosis such as diabetes. In this case, the patient or caregiver has to be taught how to monitor blood glucose, how to administer insulin or other medication, and how to identify and treat the symptoms and signs of hyper or hypoglycemia. Home health nurses are also responsible for educating and instructing patients and caregivers in administering medications including the dosage, purpose, possible side effects, and desired results. They also provide specific nutritional and dietary needs and restrictions and recommended exercise, as well as home safety issues. Additional responsibilities Home health nurses also teach caregivers how to assist patients with showering, bathing, a bed bath, and other hygiene requirements. It may be more suitable for Physical Therapists or Occupational Therapists to instruct and caregivers regarding transfers and ambulation but home health nurses should also be knowledgeable about the process and be able to give instruction as well. When home health care is prescribedHome health care for patients are usually prescribed by the physician after being discharged from the hospital or may be prescribed instead of hospitalization. Home health care is not typically intended to be long-term. One of its goals is to help the patient and caregivers to become independent in the care necessary for the condition. Evaluating if a patient is eligibleHome health nurses are also responsible for evaluating if a patient is eligible for home health care services. Medical insurance companies and Medicare have specific criteria and guidelines that patients have to meet to be eligible. Nurses have to document and review the case of the patient according to these guidelines. One of the downsides of being a home health nurse is that it involves a lot of paperwork. In the patient's home, the nurse becomes the eyes and the ears of the physician. Home health referrals can be made by the doctor if he or she suspects that the patient needs further assistance or instruction to improve his or her recovery.

Manufacturers have answered with equipment that can do it all without scalping turf down to dirt clumps. The need for rotaries for many years, turf managers faced with mowing large acreage had few choices. They would use agriculture mowers called "shredders" that they pulled behind tractors. The industry responded by creating rotary mowers designed exclusively for the landscape turf manager. These rotary mowers - self-propelled models as well as those that implement pull-behind technology - evolved into machines that could cut all kinds of grass. Turf managers are showing their appreciation, Ninety-eight percent of all mowers sold today are rotary mowers. Now without the scalping Until recently, rotary-mower technology was limited to higher cutting heights. At 2 inches or lower, most rotary decks would scalp turf on uneven ground. Even with floating designs, wide decks would scalp uneven terrain at lower heights. Strategies For Successful Career Networking

Some of the best jobs aren't listed anywhere but filled through word-of-mouth or networking. Networking means developing a broad list of contacts and using them to your advantage when you are looking for a job. There are many career networking opportunities every day. It's done at parties, dinners, events, small gatherings, birthdays, volunteer activities, ceremonies and online via social media. It happens at the gym, the grocery store, and the garage. Talk to anyone and everyone including those new to an industry and old pros, those in school and those overseas. They all matter. Here are some strategies for a successful job networking:1. Develop ContactsContact everyone you know. You meet people who might have insight into your job search. You talk to people who know people who could help you out. You talk about it with strangers at parties. Don't limit yourself to people who could clearly help you out.2. Places to Find ContactsThe best place to start developing your network is with your family, friends, and neighbours -- and with their family, friends, and neighbours, but don't stop there. Talk to co-workers, colleagues in your industry, and those you meet at industry gatherings, such as trade shows and conferences.3. Be PreparedYou should approach networking opportunities with a game plan. Find out who will be at certain places and activities, or do your best to list who you think will probably be present. Then, decide who you would most like to meet. When you have your list of potential contacts, thoroughly research their work and their backgrounds and then make up some questions and conversational statements that reflect your research. And finally, think critically about what your goals are for your networking function.4. Networking Knows No BoundariesBusiness conferences, informational interviews, college reunions, and cocktail parties are obvious networking opportunities - you expect to walk away with a few business cards and some recommendations for potential employers. Good networkers are flexible people who approach connection-making as a fluid enterprise that extends far beyond hotel conference room walls. Don't let these opportunities pass you by. Always be ready to make a contact and exchange business cards. Prepare also a powerful resume and cover letter. Resumes can serve as detailed business cards, reminding contacts of you and your accomplishments. Create a version of your resume and cover letter for networking alone, one that can be pulled out on short notice.5. Follow UpThe key is keeping your network informed of your situation. Never take your network for granted. It's important to keep them updated without being imposing or invasive. And, of course, if you get that new job, be sure to tell them and thank them again for their help.6. Follow the Golden RuleIf you want to be treated with respect, treat others with respect. If you want your phone calls and emails returned, call and write back to the people who contact you. If you want big-wigs to make time for you, make yourself available to others whom you might be able to help out. It's that simple.7. Make It Easy For Your ContactsWhen you call, meet with, or write to a potential contact, make it as easy as possible for them to help you. Explain what you specifically want, and ask detail-oriented questions.8. Be OrganizedThis is crucial to your success. Keep a record of your networking. Make sure your system has plenty of room for contacts' names, addresses, phone numbers, companies, job titles, how you met them, and subsequent conversations you've had with them.

Career Option : Nursing Versus Dental

Choosing a career for life can be a very difficult and confusing task. If you’re looking into getting a head start on your career decision the best way to succeed is by planning while currently attending high school. However, because so many interesting, new careers are emerging in the job market, making a decision while still in high school can be difficult. There are two careers that are in high demand now and will continue to be in the near future, nursing and dental. Choosing a dental or nursing career doesn’t just secure you a job always but they also offer lucrative pay packages. In this article you’ll find brief descriptions about the nursing and dental field. A nurse is a person educated and trained to care for the sick or disabled. Being a nurse entitles you to many responsibilities while at work. Patient care, developing a nursing plan, health revival and maintaining patient records are some of the duties nurses perform. Choosing nursing as a profession may also include tasks involving research studies and executing many non clinical functions essentially in the healthcare segment. A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with special training for providing primary health care, including many tasks customarily performed by a physician. Being a nurse practitioner gives you the authorization to diagnose the health problem and prescribe medication. For the most part, the earning structure of nurses is quite rewarding although it varies significantly depending on the different regions and countries. For example in some parts of Europe, you can be considered a nurse after graduating from high school and completing 12-18 months of nurse training. In other countries the only people eligible to be a nurse are those with a bachelor’s degree. Usually it depends on the distinction of the nurses based on their educational qualifications, skills, work experience and responsibilities. Professional nurses are in high demand and can earn more than task based nurses. Nursing can be a very interesting and challenging career although very rewarding at the same time! The dental career is another interesting yet very challenging career that requires eight years of education after high school. A dentist is a primary care dental provider. Just like nurses, dentists are on high demand now and will continue to be. At this point in time the prospects with dental careers are looking bright and are expected to improve further in the future. A dentist diagnoses, treats and manages overall oral health care needs, including gum care, root canals, fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges, and preventive education. Additionally they are trained to analyze x-rays, work on administrative responsibilities and medical records. Many dentists choose to practice dentistry individually by setting up the required equipment. Operative instruments, hand pieces, infection control supplies, disposables, oral surgery instruments and supplies, radiology supplies, preventive dentistry supplies, standard prophy kit, infection control supplies and operative supplies are some of the many supplies that a dentist practicing dentistry individually will need. In order to avoid infectious diseases from patients, dentists take precautions by wearing gloves, safety glasses, and masks. During the schooling process, part of the training involves many administrative tasks such as keeping track of accounts, monitoring supplies and accurate bookkeeping, which is extremely helpful to those practicing on their own. The biggest hurdle about choosing dental as your career is that many of us tend to put aside any dental issues that come across due to any financial crisis we may be going through. Because most of the income generated is paid by medical insurance, it is said that the claims for dental services will decrease drastically at some point when the economy is sluggish. Like many careers being a dentist also has its ups and downs but overall it’s a great career to choose! Nurses and Dentists have a few similarities such as, treating patients, providing emergency care to people, recognizing the importance of having good communication with patients and treating patients with respect. Both are phenomenal careers that require lots of time and dedication in school and during work. Without nurses we wouldn’t have a knowledge person watching over us 24/7 while in the hospital and without dentists we wouldn’t be able to know the importance of keeping our mouth clean. Let’s face it, nurses and dentists do more for us than we think, and if you’d like to join the team of helping others and receive a smile every time you make a difference on a patient, when choosing a career remember to consider the nursing or dental field!

There are a lot of companies that specialize in finding employment. One of these companies is CareersUSA. You may find other staffing companies that help people just like you find jobs at a more local level as well. Do not forget that you can look for a job the old fashioned way. This would involve simply asking around. You likely know at least a few people that are currently employed somewhere. Ask them if they can speak with their managers about any open positions that you may be able to fill. When you are looking for a job, try not to be too picky. Two Guerilla Tactics for Landing a New Job

Unemployment numbers are looking pretty bleak. Everyday the news seems to bringmore stories of large and small companies alike laying off thousands of workers. As of this writing in January 2009 we are looking at a pretty tight job market. I saw a newswire story about a job fair for one company held in suburban Detroit. Four thousand people showed up for the one day event. I know due to the downturn in automotive sales that their region is hurting, but the job outlook seems to be pretty bleak just about everywhere. In this kind ofcompetitive market, what can one due to stand out among all the other jobseekers? Here are 2 job hunting strategies that will make you stand out.(1) Your own website. Everyone puts their resume on line now, and so everyone has an email address and maybe a profile page at the large job posting portals. You should be using Facebook and Myspace to network in your industry, but not everybody has their own website. I think this is especially important if you are looking for any type of technical work. I would suggest you get a dot com domain name that includes your own name in it. Like bobsmithaccountant.com or technicalwriterbillgates.com Anything that includes your name. Get your name if it is available. Go to someplace like godaddy.com to purchase a domain name. Go someplace like hostgator.com for a cheap hosting account. There a a lot of tutorials about buying domains and c panel hosting on line. Twenty dollars will get you going. Use 1 of the millions of templates available and learn how to customize it a little. Hire an inexpensive web designer if you can afford it. Instead of the usual pages found in a business website, you can have a pages for education, accomplishments, your family life, goals, work history...anything that might tell a potential employer about you. Tailor your web design to the type of job you are looking for. An engineer will want their site to look clean and functional. A floral designer will want a more artistic design. Then you can plaster your web name everywhere on line that allows a link. Include it on your resume and Read the next strategy here.(2) Send a useful item with your name and or domain name on it to prospective employers. This is like personal advertising. I am stealing a page from the advertising industry here. Millions of businesses advertise themselves by putting their names on matchbooks, pens, calenders, shoe horns, key chains, hats, mouse pads, almost any item you can think of. I think this works best on a local level. Let's say you are a jewelry salesman looking for a job. Buy customized eye loupes or diamond tweezers or polishing cloths with your name, number and job title printed on them. Include your website address if you followed step 1 above. Then simply stop by every jewelry store in your area, ask for the manager, introduce yourself and leave the gifts and your resume. Easy. If you are a SAP Trainer, or other software professional, mouse pads work very well. You need to tailor the items you are dropping off to the industry, but pens and mouse pads work almost anywhere. Are you a landscaper? How about work gloves with a little label sewn to it? I can think of dozens of items for almost any type of job. If you don't have the bucks, how about a $5 pizza with your resume taped to it. Drop it off at lunch time. I bet they read your resume. These are just 2 ideas to help get your creative juices flowing. Now get out there and get that job!

The Legalities of Competition

Few folks are aware there are sometimes legal considerations when leaving their employer to go to work for the competition. In fact, the laws differ from state to state. For instance, if you're a California resident, you can start your own business that competes with an employer you just left - and you can go after those clients you once worked with while employed with your new competition. And it's legal, says A. Harrison Barnes, attorney and LegalAuthority.com founder. It's what you don't know, however, that can land you in legal hot water. You can be sure that protective mechanisms are in place with your employer that will alert the right leaders when something's not quite right. For instance, if several employees resign at the same time for no apparent reason, it could be construed as an effort by them to create their own business. While it's certainly not illegal to do any of that, the problems come in should you incorporate on any level the secrets of your employer's success or efforts are made to steal confidential information (even if you unknowingly do it), says the LegalAuthority.com founder.Further, if you attempt to sway those employees left behind to come on board with your new company, it can be considered wrongful conduct and might result in threats of a lawsuit or worse, the actual filing of a lawsuit. If it can be proven that you caused the company undue hardships, you could be held liable. Everything is tracked these days, including your access to company information in those final days before you leave your employer. If your user name and password was used to access backup files or other information, or if the company cameras catch you sneaking out with manila files in your coat, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble, says A. Harrison Barnes. More and more companies are brining complete legal staffs on board to protect their interests. These attorneys are trained in proper documentation, exit interviews (including what questions the company can legally ask you) and also to help companies understand legal documents such as non-compete clauses and nondisclosure agreements.Barnes advises employees who are considering going into competition with the company that taught them everything they know to secure legal representation early on in the game. This will ensure your efforts are above board and cannot be construed as illegal. An employment attorney can help you forge ahead in your new business venture without crossing any legal or ethical lines in the process. Also, Barnes recommends that you not appear to be doing anything behind the scenes. Always be above board in your actions and ideally, you'll work with your soon to be former employer so that they're not left with a bad feeling about you and wondering what you took that's soon going to be a threat to it.

Growth- The beginning and the final destination

Moving, growing or rising, do they sound same or you can differentiate them from each other? For many of you, they may sound like synonyms but to me, all 3 have an importance in our lives. We all wish to grow, we want to achieve and more desirably, we want to prove ourselves in the eyes of people around. Right since the time as a child, we are taught to focus on one thing only i.e. achieve and to get that, compete and try to overcome the hurdles faster and effectively than others.  We learn, unlearn and relearn in order to win.For a long time now, I have been questioning my thoughts; my thoughts on my growth, my ways to grow further and my final destination of growth. There has been a constant inner dialogue which can be taken as a conflict too because the way people term their growth is nowhere in coherence with the actual meaning of growth. Many of the readers would like to know my views about growth. Honestly, growth for me is a wholesome development of any individual. May it be in terms of career development, or transition from one relationship to another or in terms of understanding the eternal flow of energy? And I feel that our system fails to answer these questions. Growth is far beyond the regular studies, results and job. It is a term for holistic development of every individual in all the areas of his life, internal or external. The cycle of growth is incomplete till we acquire equilibrium in our life. Our inner peace, harmony and our quest for achievements has to be in sync with our ultimate purpose. We should strive to grow in a way where at the end of the road, we can relish our journey and proudly say that we have achieved the goal.Whatever we do, must have a purpose of growth attached to it. Every step that we take, should help us grow and bridge the gap between our real-self and ideal-self. Our each and every action is justified only when it helps us in reaching closer to our very own being. That is the sole purpose of our existence and we are capable of attaining it.As it goes that Life is change and growth is optional. It is up to us what choice we make. We have to make a choice between things easily available and leading nowhere or things available with a challenge and lead us to eternity. I strongly believe in the following words-THE ONLY JOURNEY IS THE JOURNEY WITHIN- Rilke

Practice Interview Questions

Think of it this way - Job interviewing is almost like going on a blind date. You arrive at the agreed-upon location, on time, neatly dressed, determined to make a good impression and ready to answer a ton of questions. The trouble starts when you don't have the right answers to the questions coming at you, and you end up creating a bad first impression. So, here are some common questions that people normally ask you at a first interview. Get prepared and wow them right from the word GO!Tell me about yourself. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer to this one - But this is the interviewer's way of getting you to talk, to open up, to say something that isn't right in front of them on your resume. And the key is this - say whatever it is you have to say with enthusiasm and passion. And be careful not to babble. Have a point. You could even talk about how this job is so much in sync with your career goals! Or you could talk about your strengths - your assets. Why are you leaving your current job? Most people would ask this - and you need to be careful to keep your comments diplomatic. Don't ever say anything directly negative about your present job. But what you can do instead is to focus on things such as growth potential and skill development and your goals. That kind of thing! Be honest about what you are looking for. But don't disclose everything (how your boss is a tyrant and your coworkers incompetent, for example) that has led to look around. What would you say is your greatest weakness? This can catch you off guard. And even if it is tempting, don't simply say that you are flawless. Find a real weakness to talk about - but not a real BAD one. Talk about something that is not that bad. You could then go on to talk about what you have done to overcome this flaw. You could say something like - "In the past I've been impatient to tackle many big projects at once. I'm still ambitious, but I prioritize so everything gets done in the right order".What kind of work environment are you looking for?Get this straight - if this question comes out at you, it means that the interviewer is trying to see if will fit into the existing scheme of things. So, if you really want this job, you need to be smart - and you need to look around you and describe your ideal workplace as the one you see right in front of you. Get some information about the corporate climate before you go in for your interview. Then you can handle this question in style. What books are you currently reading? There are absolutely no right answers here, - but what the interviewer might be trying to get at is to make sure that you are a person who is multi-dimensional with varied interests.Do you have any questions for me?Most of the time, this is what leaves anyone tongue-tied! And this is where doing your homework about the company helps. Once you know about the kind of business this is, you can ask some questions either about the business itself, or about your role in it. Think of something, but don't simply smile and say "no questions!" And remember that the question you ask is as important as the ones they ask you.Now that you know what to expect, go and ace that interview!
